Sophomore Car Wash a Splashing Success

Funds go to the Sophmore's senior year fund.

New Milford High School's Sophomore Class hosted a Car Wash this weekend at the high school. Each sophomore student was encouraged to pre-sell one $5 ticket. All proceeds from the car wash went into the Class of 2015 bank account where the money will be used towards senior year expenses such as the prom, yearbook, cap and gown and other costs. Fundraising during freshman through junior years helps to offset these costs.

A troop of 25-30 volunteers showed up Saturday morning to hold up signs and encourage passing cars to stop in and get their car washed.

According to Wendy Mackey, "I can't explain to you how proud I was of our community for coming out in droves. Some people pulled in with large vehicles and offered us more money because they knew it was more work."

"Others patiently waited on line to get their service, and then generously tipped the kids for a job well done. Our students repeatedly came up to me with surprised looks on their faces, shocked at how nice people were, and how proud they were of themselves for all the compliments they received," Mackey said.

The 5 hour car wash yielded over $1,100 in sales and tips, which will go directly into the account for the class of 2015 in efforts to defer some of the costs for their senior year.

"More importantly, we all walked away from Saturday's Car Wash with a feeling of community," Mackey said.

"When people saw our kids holding signs in the street, and then saw so much activity in the front of the high school, they pulled right in and gave us their support. As adults, the biggest impact we can ever have on our kids is teaching by example, and this is what happened beautifully this weekend," Mackey said.

"We have demonstrated and taught our children the act of generosity, so here's a huge 'thank you' to all that supported, and to all that will support in the future. We truly appreciate you!"
