Gain in State Aid for Schools, Woodcrest Health Center Application Approved

Week in Review: a roundup of top local news stories from the past week on New Milford Patch.

The aid numbers that Governor Christie released for New Jersey school districts Thursday show that for New Milford this means $1,728,705 in state aid for grades K-12 for 2012-2013, an increase of $265,518—or 18.1 percent—in total aid over last year.  However, Superintendent Michael Polizzi told Patch that New Milford received $254,638, which represents a 17.6 percent increase over last year. He said that the $1,728,705 is a gross amount which includes the Assessment for Debt Service on SDA Funding.  Meanwhile, state aid to the Borough of New Milford will remain flat under Christie’s proposed budget.  **** Woodcrest Health Care Center received approval from the planning board to erect a three-story patio/porch addition to its existing …

Application for Woodcrest Health Center Approved

Planning Board unanimously votes to approve application of a three-story patio/porch addition

Woodcrest Health Care Center received approval from the planning board to erect a three-story patio/porch addition to its existing facility on River Road Tuesday evening. The construction of an additional 33 parking spaces was also approved.   Angelo Caputo, architect for Care One, the parent company of Woodcrest Health Care Center, said the 740 square-foot addition is necessary from both an operational and resident perspective.  Currently, there exists one community patio located above the kitchen. This location is not adjacent to the day area and requires an aide to escort wheelchair patients from every floor via two elevators that are used by the entire facility. Good day Darlene, Please take note there was no variance granted for the height. The waivers sought were based on an existing nonconformity, which means the 4-story building was already built (over 40 years ago) and prior approvals carry through on future modifications - unless the application included changes thare were substantially different than what already exist. Woodcrest Health Care Center Files Application with Building Department

Proposed three-story patio/porch addition

Woodcrest Health Care Center has filed an application with the Planning Board to add a three-story 740 sq. ft. patio/porch addition to its existing facility along with another 34 parking spaces. The addition would be located on the first, second and third floors of the center, with the second and third floor patio to be screened off. Additionally, Woodcrest Health Care Center is proposing to eliminate some existing signage and add a new 3'x6' sign that is approximately 5-feet-high.  Woodcrest Health Care Center also seeks a design waiver for parking space size. The borough ordinance requires 9'x20' stalls; however, the existing parking stalls are 9'x18' and Woodcrest requests that they receive a waiver. If plans are approved, the facility …
