Flood Watch for Bergen County Cancelled

Bergen County OEM is reporting that the storm has shifted its weight outside of Bergen County.

The track of the storm has shifted north with the heaviest rain falling north and south of Bergen County, leaving our local area with less rain than previously forecasted, Chief Frank Papapietro said.  "Because the weight of the storm has shifted away from our area, Bergen County Office of Emergency Management is cancelling the flood watch for the entire local area with this afternoon’s forecast update," Papapietro said. Despite the changed forecast, Mayor Ann Subrizi said that she is still monitoring the river with the next high tide scheduled for 2 a.m. Friday.   According to the National Weather Service, the developing line of heavy showers and thunderstorms will move east across the region Thursday evening. Police Chief Offers Thanks To All Who Responded To Sandy

Chief Papapietro recognizes those who gave so much to so many during the cold, dark days and nights that Sandy left in her wake.

In times of severe weather events, such as Hurricane Sandy, Police Chief Frank Papapietro balances his role as Chief of the New Milford Police Department with that as head of Emergency Management. In this dual role, Papapietro is called upon to protect and ensure the safety of the residents of New Milford while at the same time coordinating emergency services between the first responders of New Milford and, often, between the mutual aide towns that provide support to each other, as well as other government agencies. Now that the town is almost back to normal, Papapietro wants to personally thank all those who gave their time, their safety and opened their homes to those in need during the dark days of Sandy, when the majority of town was …

Police Prepare For The Worst in Luring Incidents

Functional exercises designed to test the coordination between all levels of law enforcement and municipalities come to play in the recent luring incidents.

With everyone on heightened security due to the recent incidents of luring, what the public does not get the chance to see is that police are constantly training for worst case scenarios, especially ones involving child abductions. "We may not advertise our training drills," New Milford Police Chief Frank Papapietro said. "But we are always exercising them." With the recent spate in luring incidents not only in New Milford, but around Bergen County, police are utilizing the specialized training that they continually undergo in trying to apprehend the people responsible for posing a threat to the children of Bergen County. Understanding the increased levels of concern luring cases provoke within the community, Papapietro, a founding member …
