The Week in Review, a weekly roundup of local news stories on New Milford Patch
The body of a 37-year old New Milford woman was found by a close relative Tuesday morning with a fatal gunshot wound to the head in the Hackensack River across from the Dorchester Apartment Complex on Columbia Street. Authorities have ruled it a suicide. A male juvenile admitted to police that he beat his five pound Yorkshire Terrier with a kendo stick at his New Milford residence. An unidentified woman was struck by what witnesses described as a gray two-door Hyundai Tiburon at the intersection of River Road and Dilworth Road near Shop Rite. Members of the newly formed grassroots group SOD (Stop Over Development) came out prepared to question the testimony of New Milford Redevelopment Associates (NMRA) engineer. Instead, the applicant …

Public questioning of New Milford Redevelopment Associates expert testimony postponed; SOD speaks to Patch.
Members of the newly formed grassroots group SOD (Stop Over Development) came out prepared to question the testimony of New Milford Redevelopment Associates (NMRA) engineer, Michael Dipple, a principal of L2A Land Design in Englewood who spent four hours at the April 19 meeting testifying about flooding and the water infiltration system and basins that NMRA has included in their site plans. At the conclusion of the April 19 meeting of the Zoning Board it was determined that the May 8 meeting would pick up with the public portion of the meeting where the audience would be afforded the opportunity to question the applicant's expert. However, Zoning Board attorney Scott Sproviero told Tuesday's audience that the board has no control over who…

Hearing picks up with public questioning of expert's testimony on flooding and drainage systems included in site plan to alleviate flooding.
Tuesday night's meeting of the Zoning Board will allow the public to ask questions of New Milford Redevelopment Associates' expert Michael Dipple, an engineer and principal of L2A Land Design in Englewood, who spent much of his four hours of testimony at the April 19 meeting alleviating concerns regarding flooding. New Milford Redevelopment Associates (NMRA), a company headed by Peter Hekemian, V.P. of Development for the S. Hekemian Group, is seeking preliminary and final site plan approval for the 13-acre United Water property. The application includes: Despite the hours of testimony thus far, the crux of NMRA's argument is cited in their letter dated Jan. 3, 2012 that accompanied the filing of the site plans with the the borough's …

Representatives for New Milford Redevelopment Associates LLC appeared before the Board of Adjustment at a special meeting Thursday evening seeking preliminary and final site plan approval for the 13-acre United Water property. The application includes: Flooding dominated much of the four hours of testimony that was provided by Michael Dipple, an engineer and principal of L2A Land Design in Englewood and expert for the applicant, New Milford Redevelopment Associates (NMRA). During the course of his testimony Dipple explained the water infiltration system and basins that NMRA has included in their site plans. New planner not yet appointed; special Zoning Board meeting scheduled for April 19th.
Citing that the absence of "professional planning representation" gave him a "lack of comfort" in proceeding with the hearing, Zoning Board attorney Scott Sproviero recommended to the board that they not proceed with the hearing of the application by New Milford Redevelopment Associates for preliminary and final site plan approval for the 13-acre United Water property. Sproviero advised the board to wait until the April 10th meeting to resume the hearings when "there will be a planner present to represent the interests of the board." Denying the request of applicant's attorney, Andy DelVechhio, to proceed with the hearing and let the planner "read the transcript" once they are appointed, Sproviero said, "I believe if this board was to …

Residents divided between wanting ratables and preventing over-development at first public discussion Monday.
Residents were divided into two camps Monday night on a plan for the 13.6-acre United Water property: those who disapproved of the size and scope of the proposed mixed-use development and others, who felt it would bring much-needed ratables to the borough. The first public discussion of the application for preliminary and final site plan for the United Water property located at Madison Avenue, Main Street, River Road and John D. Cecchino Drive was held before a packed audience at the Mayor and Council meeting. The plans, submitted to the Building Department by New Milford Redevelopment Associates LLC, whose managing director is Peter Hekemian, Principal and V.P. of Development for the S. Hekemian Group, call for a four-story 221 unit …

Further, it is the residents of New Milford's job right now to continue to point out, on record, each and every one of the items that are deemed negative criteria and NOT inherently beneficial. It’s important to have a strong voice and attendance. Every voice, question, comment needs to be on the record. Each request for the developer to provide our town with experts to be witnesses on traffic, …   more ›
