Lace up your running shoes and get ready--NMFD's annual run is a week away.
New Milford Fire Company 1 is gearing up for its 4th annual 5K run and Kids Dash on June 15. The 5K will kick off at 9 a.m. for runners and walkers. The Kids half-mile dash (kids age 12 and under) and Kids Dash (kids 8 and under) will start immediately after the run/walk is completed. This is a rain or shine event. New Event info for 2013: There is a new course this year--less turns, still flat. Also, there are new awards for best 5K costume and the running club that has the most participants. The New Milford-based band NEVERENDS will be performing again and there will be a BBQ. There will also be an inflatable slide for the children's area. 26-year old patrolman Ray Woods is among those remembered at the Bergen County Chiefs Association Blue Mass honoring police officers who have given their lives in the line of duty.
The Bergen County Police Chiefs Association will be holding its second annual Law Enforcement Blue Mass honoring those officers who have died in the line of duty at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Ridgewood Wednesday. This service will be followed by a memorial service at the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute in Mahwah. New Milford lost patrolman Ray Woods in a 1972 house fire on Rhein Court that also took the life of resident Marie Cordey and critically injured firefighter Joe Costello. Fire Department honors the 30th anniversary of the passing of William Entwistle in the January 1983 Borough Hall fire.
The New Milford Fire Department marked the 30th Anniversary of the January 1983 fire at Borough Hall that took the life of 22-year old William Entwistle. Entwistle, the first firefighter to lose his life in the line of duty, was remembered at a ceremony that took place Thursday evening at the monument on the front lawn of Borough Hall. Firefighter Bill Drew, who remembered seeing Entwistle climbing the stairs to the attic of Borough Hall as he was climbing down because his air pack was nearing empty, said, "It's not the years in his life, but the life in his years that we remember tonight." A 1972 house fire on Rhein Court took the life of 26-year old patrolman Ray Woods and 45-year old Marie Cordey; firefighter Joe Costello sustained critical injuries.

NMFD holds its annual swearing-in ceremony on New Years' Day.
The New Milford Volunteer Fire Department rang in the New Year with tradition by installing its officers for 2013. Craig Maiocchi was sworn in as Chief of the Department and officers representing both Company 1 and Company 2 were also installed. Outgoing Fire Chief James Tufaro received a pin for his service from Councilman Dominic Colucci, who is also council liaison to the fire department. Tufaro was also honored by his son, JJ Tufaro, who is a Navy paramedic with the Second Medical Battalion, Second Marine Division of the Marine Corps and has been deployed to Afghanistan Company 1 played host to the event which was attended by department members, their friends and family, officers from other local fire departments and local officials …

Postponed due to poor weather last week, the day was picture perfect Sunday for New Milford Fire Department's annual Fire Awareness Day. Kids got the opportunity to ride in a fire truck, go through a smoke house and go up in the bucket of the ladder truck. The committee charged with exploring firehouse expansion seeks two members of the public to sit on the advisory subcommittee.
The New Milford Volunteer Fire Department, along with the Mayor and Council, is seeking interested residents to participate in a sub-committee to review options for the possible expansion and reconstruction of Firehouses 1 and 2. The focus of the Committee will be to review the needs, identify possible sources of funding and consider options to meet the requirements for possible expansion and reconstruction. Each project is designed to ensure safe, efficient and quality emergency services to the residents of New Milford for the next several decades.
