Music and dancing filled the Steuben House as visitors toured all three historic homes at the site
George Washington, portrayed by Rodger Yaden, along with local townspeople celebrated the anniversary of his birthday with a country ball this past weekend at New Bridge Landing. Eighteenth century dancing was featured in the Steuben House under Denise Piccino’s direction with Ridley & Anne Enslow providing musical accompaniment on fiddle and hammered dulcimer. Each of the historic site's three houses, the Steuben House, Campbell-Christie House and Demarest House were open for visitors to tour and enjoy hot cider and crullers. Visitors may also see open-hearth cooking demonstrated in the Out-Kitchen. A tiger-stripe maple bedstead, reputedly used in a local home where George Washington stayed during the 1780 Steenrapie Encampment, is …

While the fight over state funding continues between the Bergen County Historical Society and the Department of Environmental Protection, preliminary plans to construct a $350,000 museum at New Bridge Landing (NBL) remains a work in progress. To date the Society has raised $130,000 towards the construction of an 18th century Dutch barn replica that would house the Society's many artifacts which haven been placed in storage since the April 2007 Nor'easter. " Fundraising is going well," NBL Park Commission secretary Kevin Wright said. "We've raised $130,000 to date, almost entirely from small donations. We obviously are looking to elevate the building on pilings or columns of some type and to site it on the Society's lands, so we're …

Impact of development on the community, a look back at the 1970 master plan, police hires and more.
The birthplace of Bergen County is defined by the river that runs through it; looking at past master plans it's clear that the more things change, the more the concerns stay the same. SOD examines Hekemian engineer on noise pollution and flooding; Oradell and Bergenfield residents turn out in support. Mayor and council approve the hiring of new police officers to replace two recent departures, reduce overtime costs. New Jersey State Assemblyman Robert Schroeder was charged Friday with writing almost $400,000 worth of bogus checks, according to a press release from the state attorney general's office. Ongoing funding fight with DEP could result in continued deterioration of Steuben House at New Bridge Landing
Few towns in Northern New Jersey can boast of the historical significance of a Revolutionary War battleground in their backyard, but if things continue as they have, River Edge may be facing the loss of the Von Steuben House. "I'm very aware of the importance that New Bridge Landing could be to River Edge," Mary Donohue, Vice Chairwoman and River Edge representative of the Historic New Bridge Landing Park Commission said. "I say could be because at the present time it is in a terrible state of neglect, an almost willful deterioration that is taking place there; not on the part of the Commission or Bergen County Historical Society, but on the state of New Jersey." New Bridge Landing is a historic site in portions of New Milford, River Edge…
