NJ Transit Heightens Security in Response to Explosions at Boston Marathon

Additional officers, both in uniform and dressed in plain clothes, will patrol the transit system, according to spokesperson.

NJ Transit is in a "heightened state of alert" in response to several explosions reported at the Boston Marathon this afternoon, according to NJ Transit spokesman John Durso Jr. “While there has been no specific threat made to our transit system at this time, NJ Transit police have deployed both uniformed and plain clothed officers to further patrol our system and keep our customers safe," Durso said in a press release.  At least two people were killed and numerous people were injured in Boston this afternoon when there were  two explosions within a mile of the Boston Marathon's finish line, according to Back Bay Patch. Another explosion was reported at the John F. Nearly 4 out of 5 post-Sandy survey respondents now say they would recommend transportation agency to friend, relative.

A new customer satisfaction survey of New Jersey Transit customer’s post-Superstorm Sandy has overwhelmingly endorsed the job the agency has been doing, according to an announcement by the Christie administration and the agency Tuesday. In the online survey conducted Feb. 4 through February 25, or during the third quarter of the agency’s fiscal year, nearly four in five customers, or nearly 14,000 participants on the agency's website (njtransit.com) said they would recommend NJ Transit to a friend or relative. The results mark a new high for the statewide public transit agency. NJ Transit Cross-Honoring Tickets During Storm

Cross-honoring in effect through Thursday.

As the area braces for a potential three-to-five inches of tardy snow (not quite a White Christmas, but close, right?), NJ Transit announced that it would be cross-honoring of tickets starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Cross-honoring will remain in effect until the end of the service day Thursday, Dec. 27, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, bus or light rail. For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station. Typical NJ Transit. They will cross-honor tickets during the storm. They should do that all the time! There shouldn't be a difference between having a bus ticket or a rail ticket, it's all going to the same pocket- NJ Transit. Limited Bergen, Pascack Valley Rail Line Service to Start Monday

NJ Transit announces new discounted ferry service between Hoboken and Midtown Manhattan.

Rail service on three NJ Transit lines will resume some operations Monday, more than 10 days after Sandy crippled much of the region's transportation network.  Limited service on the Bergen and Pascack Valley lines will be restored Monday, the transit agency announced Saturday night. In addition, limited service from High Bridge to Newark on the Raritan Valley Line will be restored.  Train schedules will be available at njtransit.com, the agency said.  The agency said a new discounted ferry service will also begin between Hoboken and Pier 79 in Midtown Manhattan, a move designed to ease congestion at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Four NJ Transit Rail Lines to Re-Open Sunday Morning

The Main/Port Jervis line will resume limited service Sunday morning, originating and terminating in Secaucus.

NJ Transit will resume service on four more rail lines Sunday morning, including the Main/Port Jervis and North Jersey Coast lines, the governor's office announced Saturday night. Also starting service will be the Raritan Valley and Atlantic City lines. Most NJ Transit Bus Service To Resume Thursday

More than 80 bus lines will resume service on Thursday in New Jersey.
