Disaster Unemployment Assistance Due to Hurricane Sandy

FEMA approves Christie’s request to extend Disaster Unemployment Assistance to cover all New Jersey counties as a result of Hurricane Sandy.

Federal Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is now available for anyone living or working in the affected counties at the time of Hurricane Sandy, and who are unemployed as a direct result of the damages caused by the storm. In so many Bergen County towns, Sandy effectively closed businesses for days on end, displacing workers who only get paid if they work. It has yet to be calculated the amount of money lost among businesses who could not open their doors; especially small, independently-owned businesses. No business=no paying customers=no money to meet payroll. In New Milford, almost every business along River Road and Main Street was closed due to the power outages that lasted for more than a week.
