Board of Education president, Darren Drake, said that the Board's approval of entering into a 'conceptual contract' with Hekemian for three-acres of property to construct a field of dreams-like "state of the art" athletic field is in line with the Board's vision of moving the district forward, athletically as well as academically. "As a Board, we are charged not only with the academic component of a superior education, but also the …

This year's honores are Nora Aivers (NMHS), Stacey Calise (Gibbs), Pamela Krause (DEOMS) and Dora Oliviero (Berkley). Oliviero was also named District Teacher of the Year. Superintendent Polizzi talks to Patch about his appearance before the Zoning Board, the letter he submitted to the Board, and the BOE's position on the development of the United Water property.
Superintendent Michael Polizzi wants to make one thing very clear. The Board of Education has been involved in the potential development of the United Water property before the plans were even filed. "What we have not been involved with to date, is attending the Zoning Board meetings regarding the development," he said. According to Polizzi, he and the Board of Education (BOE) do not believe that the property should be left completely undeveloped. Although they adamantly oppose any residential building, Polizzi said, "A certain degree of development would be good for the community, and what's good for the community is good for the schools." Polizzi said that the intent of his letter, that was supported by the BOE, was to make the Zoning …

Editor: This is a unique election year in New Jersey. For the first time, Board of Education candidates appear on the same ballot as the rest of our elected representatives. Especially with this being a presidential election year, many of us may forget to cast our votes for our local Board of Education candidates. I am writing to remind all registered voters to exercise your right to vote on this Election Day and, if you live in New Milford, to vote for Darren Drake and Joe Steele for the New Milford Board of Education. I served my community for 19 years on the board and I was fortunate enough to serve with both Darren and Joe for a few of those years. This is a time when experience really does matter. Overall, the NMBOE is an …
