Volunteers needed for Mentoring Youth and Mentoring Mom Programs
The Volunteer Center of Bergen County is seeking men and women to participate in their volunteer Mentoring Youth and Mentoring Mom Programs. There is an especially great need for male mentors and bi-lingual Spanish speaking volunteers of both sexes. The Mentoring Youth Program is seeking caring men and women to provide guidance, friendship and support to abused and neglected children ages 5 to 18. There are currently over 100 boys and girls who are waiting to be matched with someone with whom they can develop a positive relationship. Mentoring Moms is seeking women who can make a difference in the lives of isolated and overwhelmed mothers of all ages. The volunteers spend time with mothers who have experienced difficulty in …

In addition to coordinating the relief efforts of charities, civic organizations and volunteer groups for the thousands of local residents still reeling from the effects of superstorm Sandy, the Bergen County Volunteer Center is also kicking off its annual holiday program--'All Wrapped Up.' Now in its 15th year, 'All Wrapped Up' is a giving program that fulfills the holiday wishes of low-income families and people who face the daily hardships of poverty, abuse, neglect and homelessness. Volunteer center says need is up but donors are down this year.
Each holiday season, the Volunteer Center for Bergen County hosts its "All Wrapped Up Program" that matches donors with Bergen County's neediest individuals and families to provide holiday gifts. But while requests from families in need have increased this year, the number of donors are "way down," said Debbie Emery, Program Director for Community Volunteer Services at the Volunteer Center of Bergen County. The Volunteer Center currently has 489 donors versus the 615 donors that they had at this time last year. "This season is absolutely the toughest season we've ever seen," Emery said.
