The Week Ahead in New Milford

Meeting of the Mayor and Council and special Zoning Board meetings dominate the week ahead in New Milford.

There will be a public meeting of the Mayor and Council Monday evening at 7:45 pm in the council chambers of Borough Hall. Prior to the start of the meeting, the mayor and council will hold a work session at 7 pm in the upstairs conference room of Borough Hall. The public is invited to attend the open portion of the work session. The work session will include continued discussion regarding River Edge's shared services agreement proposal. The public portion of the meeting includes a presentation by the Mayor and Council to the New Milford Junior Football League Superbowl Champions. The New Milford Auxiliary Police will also be present at the meeting to take their oath of office. On the agenda is a resolution authorizing Capital Alternatives…

Late Auxiliary Police Chief Honored With Portrait

In honor of his years of dedication of service to New Milford, the town is presented with a portrait of former Auxiliary Police Chief Andrew Boele.

Ask anyone who knew Andy Boele what he was like and they will tell you three things. One, he loved to laugh. Two, he was a man who never tired of giving so much of himself to the town. And three, he was an avid fisherman. Boele, who passed away earlier this year, had been a member of New Milford's Auxiliary Police since 1983, rising to the rank of Chief. He was also a member of the Ambulance Corps.  "Andy had an infectious laugh," Police Chief Frank Papapietro recalls with a smile.  "Everytime I saw him, he was laughing," Papapietro said. "I really can't say enough good things about him. He was always willing to help whenever we needed assistance." At Wednesday's meeting of the Mayor and Council, water color artist Philip Smallwood …

400K for Flood Buyouts, State Issues Schools Report Card in Local News This Week
