can someone please answer me why Bergen County has their own police department and sheriff'sRead More department? Its like the only county that has both and has one of the smallest crime rates? this is why Christie has no patience for public employees. All the other hard working cops have to be punished because of this misconduct and profiteering of tax payers.

Who's Toby Keith and why would people get drunk at his concerts? But seriously, this is a goodRead More thing. Driving is a privilege, not a right. If you drive drunk, all your rights should be taken away for the rest of your life. You should be publicly humiliated. Driving drunk is a conscience decision to use a 2,000 pound weapon to potentially kill or hurt other people. There should be a drunk driving registry on the internet so we can see who got caught and stay away from them and chastise them. Previous drunk drivers should have to have a BIG sign on their car that says "I DROVE DRUNK!!!! STAY AWAY!". Let's see the rebuttals I get for this one...

Your comment that other Sheriff's departments also has them does not justify Bergen having one! YouRead More state that we already have and by your statement seems like it was a 2011? Why would we put it out of commission did it have over 2000 miles on it??? This is the mentality of our politicians how can you state that it won't cost the taxpayers a dime, how are you going to pay for fuel and maintenance with fund raisers. This is a waste and as a registered Republican this sheriff just list my vote for this!
John Santaella July 24, 2014 at 10:10 am
When politicians claim that something won't cost the taxpayer anything look out because it's goingRead More to cost plenty. The sheriff is living out his childhood dreams of having the biggest toys.
bfree July 24, 2014 at 10:14 am
The NJSP have sufficient resources that can be called upon if needed in Bergen Co. This is a wasteRead More of money--it is not free; as previously posted, there are operational, training, maintenance, and repair costs. Sheriff is out of his league on the this one. And, I still question the need for county-wide law enforcement by a Sheriff, in a county that has complete law enforcement in each city or is covered by NJSP. The only thing the sheriff should do is handle civil legal needs and jail facilities. Patrol officers are a duplication and waste of funds.

So, fastharry, the only criminals in the US are liberals? Ridiculous statement.
DD July 23, 2014 at 08:48 am

Authorities say it appears the driver was "innattentive" when she caused the accident that killed a motorcyclist from Elmwood Park.
CF July 21, 2014 at 03:39 pm
Someone stopped short on Route 17 in the middle of the day.....that is unheard of. People drivingRead More with their heads up their butt in Bergen County......never. Being tailgated by someone on a cell phone .....never happens in North Jersey. People on motorcycles recklessly driving in between cars in slow (and fast) moving traffic….say it isn’t so. People please, I am surprised more motorcyclists are not killed the way people drive around here. Story says it all, person killed on the bike was tailgating as well, unfortunately they did not have a couple of tons of steel and an airbag to protect them. Watch for the lawsuit, vehicle drivers will be found to be 20% responsible for the death; poor family will get a couple of hundred grand from insurance and no apology. The guys in the Ferraris that killed the motorcyclist by Giant’s stadium got manslaughter charges by the same prosecutors office, so if they had the case, I am sure the drivers would have been charged.
Leaking Ink July 21, 2014 at 08:16 pm
The title of this article blames the Franklin Lakeswoman for killing Motorcyclist. The articleRead More itself states that Authorities have not disclosed which vehicle killed the Motorcyclist. Which is it?

Barry is right even tho she's wrong for texting. She's only responsible for the car she hit inRead More front of her. It's the drivers responsibility behind her to keep a safe distance

LOL! Yeah that's what I'll be thinking about on my death bed....this thread. Lol
Kevin July 24, 2014 at 01:34 am
Stay on topic Mr. Coffee. That name fits you best, a slow drip! Just remember that on your deathRead More bed two or more police officers will probably be there trying to save your life. Make sure you tell them don't! Fire departments and basic life support personnel for the majority of this state are volunteers. The police will be there first, way before the volunteers. Make sure you curse them out and make doughnut jokes, call them dirty, and say any other ludicrous comment off the top of your head. They won't stop regardless of what you say.
Phil Brooks July 24, 2014 at 09:34 am
Kevin, Even if they're reflectors, they're not lit. If they're not lit and there's no dome light onRead More (and that could have a half cover on it so you don't see it from the rear), it is my understanding that the police officer is in violation of the law. Now, you're driving down 17 at one in the morning, visibility is lessened because it's dark out (not that it stops people from tooling along at 70+), oncoming headlights are a distraction and, if you're smart, you're riding in the center lane because, if something happens, you could move either left or right (and riding the center when no one else is around is also a violation because you're supposed to stay right except to pass; I remember that from my written test a whole bunch of years ago); you come over a rise and you think you see something up ahead in the dark on the shoulder. Is it an animal with his eyes reflecting, meaning he could jump out into the highway? Is it a person? Is it a car? I've done a fair amount of night driving; your eyes can play tricks on you. Put it this way, even a broken down car almost always has something on it (even a piece of cloth attached to the door handle) to TRY and make it visible. The officer was doing everything he legally could (and maybe it wasn't all legal) to hide himself. In my opinion, he could have very easily have been a deterrent, sitting further down the road (because up was out of his jurisdiction) with his lights on. Instead, he chose to be passive just waiting for a paying customer. And the reason why he sat there passively is because there was money to be made. Now, maybe that wasn't his decision and someone else (a superior officer maybe upon direction from town hall) told him to do it. And it cost the man his life. We likely don't know all the details of the accident, except that there was apparently a rush to vilify and charge the truck driver........I have a tremendous respect for police officers. Certainly, it's not a job I wish to do and I'd likely discourage my kids from doing it. Yes, there are some who abuse the power that come with the uniform, badge and gun. But most are decent guys and I know a few. But it bothers me when these guys are out there "fund raising," so to speak when they could easily deterring people from speeding. But, speeding is big business, from the radar detectors to the insurance companies to the municipalities to the lawyers. And, so no one is going to encourage cops to deter when they could make more money apprehending. Wouldn't you rather catch a crime before it happens, even speeding, rather than waiting for a potentially unsafe condition to play itself out?

They'll also likely bankroll the government programs that keep old people chugging along, in the form of sales taxes. So, I'll grow up just as soon as you get off your fat ass and do a Google Maps search which would have taken you maybe ten seconds. Actually, the amazing part is that you didn't even have to get off your fat ass to do that. And you still couldn't do it.

The shooter was an ex-con. He HATED police. For some reason, he has had enough. Maybe he was drunkRead More or stoned & didn't want to go back to jail. So he grabs a security guards gun & waits for the police to arrive & opens up on them. After killing the first cop the next two cops to arrive on the scene open up on him & kill him. If you look at the people who frequent Walmart, you get a clear, pathetic, pitiful, picture of theRead More core of the problem. Severely undereducated, easily brainwash-able, very apparent lack of self value. Perfect target voter for the republiscams. If the woman owns a gun legally she should know the laws period. Laws are the laws if we like themRead More or not. I hope they cut her a break for being honest but it is her responsibility to know the laws. Ignorance of Law is no defense in the United States.

Thank You jersey girl. When a person legally Buys a Gun a Responsibility and Accountability comesRead More along with it. Just as with a Drivers Lic. Even tho one is a Right and one is a Privilege. Ignorance is not Bliss. Plain and simple she broke New Jersey Law, No matter the excuse The court will decide not The Public Court of Opinions, Just because in Penn. one can walk in Buy a Gun and the law says you have a right to Carry, does not give you the same rights in any other states. And THUDNJ You really think The Federal GOV. would do a better job . IRS-VA- CIA -FBI Yea Right. And to repeat my Self To Obtain a New Jersey Firearm Purchasing Permit, Be it Pistol or Shotgun. It goes threw back Ground checks From Local Police , State Police and Federal ( FBI ) checks, So in essence She or any one from out of State should have more rights the a New Jersey Citizen. And THUDNJ it is The Federal Gov, Us Senators and Congress that are coming up with these screwy laws, So every time some one is found with a Loaded gun in their car from out of State or MEXICO where they bought it Legally Most with no Background Checks or Even a Drivers LIC. Where A Drivers LIC. will be given to the Illegals if obamanation has his way they just have to say I did not know it was Illegal I am Sorry, This whole story can go on and on with Opinions when IT IS THE LAW of New Jersey she Broke,
