New Milford Police and Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit conduct joint investigation
A Palisades Park man was arrested Tuesday on sexual assault charges for allegedly engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct with an underaged New Milford girl, police said. Leo Lopiccolo, 40, an employee at Home Depot, was charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child after a joint investigation by New Milford Police and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit, Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said. The 17-year old, a female acquaintance of Lopiccolo, reported the alleged sexual abuse to a New Milford High School staff member and said that it had been going on since she was 14-years old, Molinelli said. After a week of severe weather alerts and flood warnings, the morning was picture perfect for the Fourth Annual New Milford Fire Department's 5K Run that was held on Saturday, June 15. Over 420 adults and children participated in the event which hosted a Family Walk, Kids Half Mile, Kids Dash and the 5K Run. New Milford Police Chief Frank Papapietro was among the runners. Kevin Nyambane was first to cross the finish line to win the race with a time of 16:04.19. Lauren Odoksta has been hired by the New Milford Board of Education (BOE) to be the Supervisor of Elementary Instruction beginning July 1. Introduced at Monday's BOE meeting, Odoksta told the audience that she began her career in Upper Saddle River as a teacher while she pursued her second masters degree in educational leadership. Michael Marrara Jr. facing charges of aggravated manslaughter relating to the death of his 10-week-old son in March of 2012.
The father of a 10-week old infant family members claimed died of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) last March has been charged with aggravated manslaughter, Prosecutor John L. Molinelli confirmed Tuesday. Michael Marrara Jr., 32, of Fort Lee, was also charged Tuesday with hindering apprehension and endangering the welfare of a child related to the death of his son, Andrew Jeremy Marrara, Molinelli said. Marrara posted $250,000 bail Tuesday night, jail records show. Molinelli did not provide further details on the investigation. Hurricane Sandy hit New Milford hard, the Little League fields being no exception. Bleachers were lost, the scoreboard was broken, fencing was destroyed and the grounds torn apart. League Vice President, Dan Davis, said that making the necessary repairs and getting the fields ready for opening day was a daunting task. "We rely on volunteers for everything from maintaining the fields to working the snack bar," Davis said. "All of our funding comes through fundraising." In order to help with costs, the League applied for the SNY (SportsNet New York) PLAY BALL grant to help restore the fields. Now in its third year, SNY PLAY BALL, in conjunction with N.Y.
