PSE&G Underground Electric Facility Upgrade in Bergen County

Work is scheduled for Maywood, Hackensack, River Edge and New Milford beginning in Sept.

PSE&G is upgrading and replacing an underground electric transmission circuit in Bergen County. The circuit runs from PSE&G’s Maywood Substation through Hackensack, River Edge and into the New Milford Switching Station. Construction activities along the 4.45 mile circuit will be completed between Aug. 2013 and Dec. 2013. According to PSE&G, the purpose of this infrastructure upgrade is to continue to ensure safe, reliable utility service for area residents and business owners.  During this period utility service to PSE&G customers will continue as usual.

Initial work will begin Sept. in River Edge and Oct. in New Milford.

  • River Edge: Kinderkamack Rd, Jackson Ave, and in the parking lot of the Kenneth B. George Park--work will begin on or about Sept. 25 and last until Nov. 12.
  • New Milford: Henley Ave--work will begin on or about Oct. 1 and last until Dec. 3.

To expedite this work, PSE&G has scheduled extended work hours Monday through Friday, with some 24hr. and/or weekend work expected during certain aspects of the project.  It should be noted that the construction dates and scheduled work hours identified are tentative and subject to minimal variations due to the construction process.

No major road closings are expected, however lane closures and/or detours will be necessary during construction. Motorists may want to travel an alternate route until the work is completed. Local police will be on site at all times to oversee new traffic patterns. PSE&G said that interruptions will be kept to a minimum.

PSE&G crews use work area protection including local police department traffic management assistance, traffic cones, barriers, utility work signage, and flaggers, providing safety measures for project completion. The utility reminds motorists to slow down and be alert when driving past a PSE&G jobsite.
