Rutgers, New Milford High to Hold First Joint Symposium Friday

New Milford High School students will have a unique chance to learn about careers and opportunities in fields related to science technology engineering and math.

New Milford High School and representatives from Rutgers University come together Friday for a S.T.E.M. (Science Technology Engineering and Math) Symposium.

The day, scheduled to run from 9 a.m. – 2:45 p.m., is being run in conjunction with The Academies at New Milford High School.

According to their overview, “The Academies@New Milford High School represent a bold new direction for education in the New Milford Public School District, one that considers student interest, national need and global demand for high qualified graduates capable of competing at the most challenging levels."

The S.T.E.M Academy prepares students for professions in many fields including but not limited to: psychology, environmental studies, biochemistry, medicine, engineering, accounting, education, architecture, aeronautics, statistics, computer sciences, food services and applied mathematics.”

The event was organized by Eric Sheninger and Michelle Harle of New Milford High School and Waheed U. Bajwa of Rutgers University.

The first joint symposium between the two educational institutions, “has an extremely rich agenda and will most certainly inspire students to think about learning in this area and STEM careers,” said New Milford High School Principal Eric Sheninger.
