NMHS Student Commended by National Merit Scholarship Corporation

Kevin Teets finished in the top 5 percent of over 1.5 million students entered in the competition for a National Merit Scholarship.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced that Kevin Teets of New Milford High School was named a Commended Student in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program.

New Milford High School Principal Eric Sheninger met with Teets this morning to give him the news.

About 34,000 Commended Students from all over the country are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the National Merit Scholarship by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

“They young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” a spokesman for the NMSC said. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
