Middle School Hosts Food Drive To Replenish Local Pantries

Despite the interruption of Hurricane Sandy, DEOMS Student Council food drive is a success.

During the month of November the David E. Owens Middle School (DEOMS) Student Council hosted a food drive to help stock the local food pantries through the holidays.

Despite the fact that Hurricane Sandy interrupted the start of the food drive, the student body collected 1,567 cans. The sixth grade alone collected 1,089 food items. A little friendly competition between homerooms had Mr. Cottiers' homeroom finishing first, followed by Mrs. LePage's homeroom, and coming in third was Mrs. Edelstein's homeroom.

The Student Council is under the direction of Mrs. Daley and Ms. Carroll. Whitney Perro, principal, impressed by the generosity of the students, said, "We did not let the hurricane at the beginning of the month slow us down!"
