After Stellar Season, Knights Suffer Loss To Kinnelon

Fueled by five interceptions, Kinnelon Colts beat New Milford 26-14 to capture State title.

The New Milford High School football team took a hard loss when Kinnelon captured the state title with a 26-14 victory in the North Jersey Section 2, Group 2 championship game Saturday at Kean University.

The Colts recorded five interceptions and built a 20-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back.

After taking the opening kickoff, Kinnelon opened the scoring on Kinnelon's Sean Robbins' 28-yard touchdown just two minutes into the game. After the defense forced New Milford to punt, Robbins found Sean Walsh for an 80-yard touchdown pass for another Colts score.

New Milford came to life at the end of the second quarter when the team got their first down and Dante Tobler had a one yard touchdown to cap off the first half. With just seconds left in the third quarter, Tobler pulled another one yard touchdown, but the Knights couldn't rally against Kinnelon's defense and the five interceptions they took away from New Milford. The defense held New Milford's Tobler, who carried for over 2,000 yards this season, to only 100 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns.
