United Water Property Planner Appointed

Mayor and council appoint planner to replace Burgis at United Water property hearings before zoning board.

The mayor and council appointed Phillips Preiss and Grygiel on Monday as the planner to replace Burgis in Zoning Board hearings on development of the United water property.

Burgis had to recuse itself from the hearings regarding the development of the United Water company by New Milford Redevelopment Associates.

Last week's meeting of the Zoning Board regarding the development of the United Water property was postponed due to a lack of a borough planner.

Zoning Board attorney Scott Sproviero recommended to the board that they not proceed with the hearing until a planner is present "to represent the interests of the board."

According to borough attorney, Mark Madaio, the other firm under consideration, Birdsall Services, had conflicts that would have ultimately caused their recusal.

"Birdsall had many, many projects and much contact with Hekemian and performed engineering work for the water company."

Madaio said that Preiss' cost will either be less than, or equal to, the cost of Burgis.
