Kinderkamack Road Traffic Calming Measures in River Edge Coming

Roadway stanchions should be installed before end of year

Plans to install 11 roadway stanchions along Kinderkamack Road and Midland Avenue should be completed by the end of the year in River Edge as borough officials look to make the main thoroughfaires safer to pedestrians.

The crosswalk pedestrian stanchions would be located where Kinderkamack Road meets with: Midland Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, Continental Avenue, Madison Avenue, Voorhis Avenue, Howland Avenue, Reservoir Avenue, Main Street and Grand Avenue. Additional stanchions would be placed at the intersections of Midland Avenue and Bogert Road and Midland Avenue and Myrtle Avenue.

According to Police Chief Thomas Cariddi, the installation had been delayed to allow the Department of Public Works additional time to complete Hurricane Sandy clean-up efforts and leaf pick-up.

The borough is also hoping to work in conjuction with County officials to perform a traffic study in hopes of lowering the speed limit on Kinderkamack Road to 25 miles per hour.

A traffic study, which was last completed in 2008, determined that the average speed limit on Kinderkamack Road in River Edge was 33mph, which is under the posted limit. The highest prevailing speed limit was measured at 38mph.

The current speed limit on Kinderkamack Road is 35mph although Oradell and Hackensack have their speed limit for the county road set at 25mph.
