Final Leg of UW Property Development Application, Public Hearing Begins Thursday

The process of New Milford Redevelopment Associates presenting its application to the Zoning Board is winding down.

The Zoning Board will be holding a special meeting, on the possible development of the United Water property only, from 7 – 10 p.m. on Thursday evening.

The applicant, New Milford Redevelopment Associates (NMRA), is looking to develop a 70,500 sq. ft. supermarket, a 4,300 sq. ft. bank and 24 affordable housing units. NMRA recently filed a suit against the Borough of New Milford for preventing their ability to build affordable housing.

Public comments are expected to begin and will be the main focus of the meeting. NMRA attorney Andy DelVecchio sent a letter to the zoning board in November requesting that members of the public be limited to seven minutes while questioning experts and consultants or making comments.

The Zoning Board considered the recommendation and has tossed around the idea of limiting public comments to 7-10 minutes per person.

Scott Sproviero, attorney for the Zoning Board, reminds those interested in participating in the public comments to not attempt to introduce evidence, that everyone will be given a chance and to come to the meeting prepared.

The Zoning Board met last Tuesday when they heard about the proposed design of a bank and got a response, to the tune of $1.25 million, form traffic consultant Berge Tombalakian. These, along with issues presented by Margita Bastistic, engineer to the Zoning Board, could be some of the major items discussed.
