The Bergen County Utilities Authority (BCUA) will host a computer (e-waste), tire recycling, and personal document shredding event on Sunday, April 27 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The event will be hosted at Bergen Community College, located at 400 Paramus Rd., Paramus.
“Privacy experts often recommend that individuals shred files, tax documents, credit cards, bank statements, and other items of which could be used to commit identity theft,” said BCUA Chairman Andrew “Chuck” Vaccaro. “This will be a great way for residents to get rid of these sensitive documents, which participants will be able to observe being shredded on-site.”
Personal confidential documents will be collected for on-site shredding, along with computers, electronic equipment, and old tires for recycling. Acceptable documents are limited to confidential and sensitive materials only. Non-confidential materials, such as books, magazines, newspapers, etc., should be recycled through local municipal recycling programs. It is not necessary to remove paper clips, staples or paperboard binder covers.
“This is a way for the BCUA to assist Bergen County residents with discarding confidential documents and recyclable materials in an environmentally-safe fashion,” said BCUA Executive Director Robert Laux. “The ability to shred documents is popular with Bergen County residents, and I look forward to another successful event.”
Acceptable electronic equipment includes computers, monitors, printers, circuit boards, speakers, modems, motherboards, power supplies, photocopiers, fax machines, televisions, VCRs and DVD players, stereo equipment, and cellular phones. Residents will be limited to the recycling of four tires per person. Tires will be accepted with or without metal rims.
“BCUA staff has done a good job interacting with local residents and providing important recycling events throughout the County. This is an opportunity to safely shred sensitive and confidential documents,” added Chairman Chuck Vaccaro.
These recycling services are free and available to Bergen County residents only. Proof of residency is required to participate. Materials from businesses will not be accepted. In order to accommodate those wishing to participate, there will be a limit of four bags or boxes of documents weighing no more than 10 lbs. each.
