Two Borough Women Arrested on Burglary Charges

The Roosevelt Avenue residents were seeking prescription medications in incidents in both the borough and Cresskill, according to the NMPD

Two borough women were arrested in connection to several area burglaries, according to New Milford police. Police said the women were looking to take prescription drugs.

Jeri Waynick, 32, and Jessica Jarowicz, 30, both of Roosevelt Avenue, were arrested and charged with several crimes. Waynick was charged with burglary, theft of movable property and two counts of attempted burglary, according to the NMPD. Jarowicz was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary and two counts of attempted burglary, according to police.

NMPD officers responded to a burglary on Oak Lane on March 8.  Police said the caller reported that the side door had been pried open between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 pm. The caller said the home was owned by his aunt and the only items missing were prescription medications that had been on the kitchen table, police said.  Shortly after, the medications were found on a road in Teaneck by a passing pedestrian, according to police.

While investigating the burglary on Oak Lane, police were told that a woman rang a doorbell on Korfitsen Road while trying to turn the door handle.  Police said the woman left the scene in a green Honda with another woman who was driving the car.

Police said shortly after the report from Korfitsen Road, Cresskill Police broadcast an alert of a burglary in their town which allegedly involved two women in a green Honda with Georgia registration.  Upon further investigation, police said they determined the suspected owners of the green Honda lived in New Milford and a "stop and hold" alert was sent out.

NMPD Sgt. Frank Ramaci and P.O. Nicholas DiGenio observed the green Honda in the driveway of a Roosevelt Avenue home. Police said the officers approached the residence with the assistance of other New Milford officers and officers from the River Edge and Cresskill police departments. Officers searched the vehicle and found two pairs of gloves and a small flathead screwdriver, according to police reports.

The women were then transported to New Milford Police Headquarters for questioning.  Police said while they were questioning the women, the officers became aware of other witnesses who had observed the women's vehicle.  Police said the witnesses were unable to positively identify the women and they were then released.

The following day, Wednesday, March 9, an attempted  burglary was reported on Voorhis Avenue. Police said someone attempted to enter through a side door. Police said a neighbor later came forward and described two "suspicious" women he had also observed on his street the day before.  The witness also had observed two women in a green compact vehicle with Georgia plates, according to police.

On March 10, Sgt. Ramaci consulted with an assistant prosecutor who determined there was sufficient probable cause to charge the women, police said, even though witnesses were not able to identify them.

Sgt. Ramaci and two lieutenants from Cresskill returned with arrest warrants for Cresskill and arrested both parties and transported them to the Cresskill Police Department. Police said while the women were there, they admitted to the burglaries on Oak Lane and attempts on Voorhis Avenue and Korfitsen Road in the borough.

Cresskill charges are also pending against the women, police said.  Police said the women told them their purpose for the burglaries was to obtain prescription medication. Both women were released on their own recognizance from New Milford on $5,000 bail each, according to the NMPD.
