Roads Reopen Around Borough, Overnight Parking Rule Suspended

Only a portion of Main Street remained closed on Tuesday afternoon but police cautioned residents to prepare as more rain is headed to the borough on Thursday

Flood waters receded overnight into Tuesday, drying out many areas of the borough that had been underwater for most of the day Monday. NMPD Chief Frank Papapietro said all streets had been reopened with the exception of a portion of Main Street between Madison Avenue and River Road.

"We have been advised of the possibility for another significant rainfall on Thursday," said Papapietro. "We are suspending overnight parking beginning tonight through Sunday."

Papapietro said he would re-evaluate on Sunday whether the suspension of the overnight parking rule would continue.

"We are asking residents in low-lying areas to take precautions if they live in flood prone areas," said Papapietro. "We can handle another inch, but the three inches they are currently predicting with this saturated ground will cause much more serious effects than we saw on Monday."

The chief said another reverse 911 would be issued prior to the start of the predicted storm on Thursday and would be based on the latest update given to the borough by the county and weather service.
