Police: Women Sought for Prescription Drug Fraud

Two recent incidents at the ShopRite pharmacy

Police are investigating two recent incidents of prescription fraud at the ShopRite on River Road.

Two fraudulent prescriptions for oxycodone, a pain killer, were "inadvertantly filled and dispensed" to two separate female customers on both June 28 and July 5, a ShopRite pharmacist reported to the New Milford Police Department.

"In both cases, the females waited for the prescription and paid in cash ($149.99 each)," according to police reports. "The pharmacist did not suspect any suspicious actions by the females and the prescriptions themselves appeared legitimate and contained actual safety features."

The pharmacist later contacted both the hospital and the doctor listed on the prescription pads and was told that neither had any knowledge of the prescriptions, police said.

Police also said the addresses on the prescriptions were not valid.

The pharmacist was told to notify police if the women return to the store or if more fraudulent prescriptions are submitted.

The case was turned over to the NMPD Detective Division.
