Man Who Allegedly Exposed Himself Sought

Woman told police he exposed himself in two separate incidents in or near laundry room in apartment complex.

Police are on the lookout for a man who allegedly exposed himself twice in one week to the same woman in the laundry room of the Brookchester Apartment complex.

The man is described as having dark skin, short curly black hair, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, 20 to 30 years old with a slim- to medium-build. He was last seen wearing a navy sweatshirt and gray sweatpants. The woman reported that the man had a bad complexion, a thin goatee and was wearing thin sunglasses. He was last seen in the area of Boulevard.

According to Chief Frank Papapietro, the first incident occurred March 13 at 10:30 a.m. and the latest on March 20 at approximately 2:35 p.m.

The woman, 56, told police that on March 13 she observed the suspect masturbating as he stood in a parking lot directly across from the laundry room. She called police, but the suspect had fled on foot.

On March 20 the same man entered the laundry room off Bulger Avenue and asked her a question about a dryer. She reported that upon asking the question he exposed himself and walked out of the laundry room.

The woman followed him as she called police on her cell phone. She lost sight of him on Boulevard. She told police that she recognized the man as the same person she had seen the previous week.

Lt. John O’Malley requested a Bergen County Police K-9 Unit to assist with a search of the area along with NMPD officers Det/Lt. Frank Ramaci, P.O. George Herrero and P.O. Richard Giacobone, Jr. However, the suspect was not found.

Although no physical contact occurred, Papapietro urges all women to be observant when doing laundry alone. "Be aware of your surroundings and always tell someone where you are," he said.

Papapietro also asked that any suspicious activities be reported immediately to New Milford Police at 201-261-1400 or call 911.

"A police sketch artist is working with the victim on a composite sketch that will be released to the public," Papapietro told Patch.

Anyone with information regarding this incident may contact New Milford Det. Lt. Frank Ramaci or Det. Brian Long.
