Police: New Milford Liquors Under Investigation for Sale of Alcohol to Minors

The NMPD is continuing its investigation of the incident, which may lead to a hearing held by the Mayor and Council

Three minors were picked up by officers from the New Milford Police Department on Saturday night after they purchased alcohol at New Milford Liquors with a fake out-of state driver's license, according to NMPD Chief Frank Papapietro.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Officer Kevin Van Saders, "observed the juveniles leaving the store with purchases and enter a vehicle driven by a third juvenile," according to police reports.

Van Saders and Officer Scott Petrie stopped the car and took the three juveniles into custody, according to the NMPD.

The juveniles are not from New Milford and were released to their parents, "after it was determined that the purchases were made with a fake Maryland driver’s license which was in one of the juvenile’s possession," police said.

According to Papapietro, they face "varying motor vehicle and juvenile charges."

Papapietro said the incident will be investigated by New Milford Police ABC officers and the results will be turned over to the Mayor and Council for possible enforcement action against the store.

At the April 25 work session of the Mayor and Council, Borough Administrator Christine Demiris referenced the incident, indicating that the governing body will likely hold a disciplinary hearing pending the conclusion of the NMPD investigation.
