Police Investigating Burglary in Vacant House

Police report residential burglary in a house that has been vacant since Hurricane Irene.

The  is investigating a residential burglary that occurred in an historic home on River Edge Avenue on Friday.

According to Police Chief Frank Papapietro, the owner of the property reported the burglary after he noticed that the glass on the rear door to the house had been smashed. 

Officer Nelson Perez responded to the call and was informed by the owner that the incident occurred somewhere between the hours of 1pm and 8:20pm, Papapietro said.

A guest house that is located on the property also showed signs of burglary, but the chief said that it did not appear that entry had been made. 

Papapietro said that during the investigation, police discovered several windows on the garage broken, as well as the windshield and passenger window of a Chevrolet van that had been damaged during Irene and was parked on the property.

According to Papapietro, nothing appears to have been removed from the residences at this time.  

Papapietro said that Detective-Lt. Frank Ramaci responded to the scene and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation Unit was notified.

"Both residences have been vacant since Hurricane Irene flooded the property," Papapietro said.
