Police Arrest Man Allegedly Behind String of North Jersey Burglaries

Police charged Jason Burgos-Colon, 29, with burglary and possession of stolen property.

Police arrested a 29-year-old who is behind a series of burglaries across northern New Jersey, Chief Christopher Brock said.

Police charged Jason Burgos-Colon, of Passaic and Paterson, with burglary and possession of stolen property.

Burgos-Colon came in through the rear window of a Falmouth Avenue home on March 26, just after midnight, while the family inside was asleep, Brock said. He dug through the house, taking pocketbooks, cash and the keys to the family car, Brock said.

He left through the front door and drove off in the car parked in the driveway, Brock said.

During the investigation, Paramus detectives learned about a similar burglary in Clifton on March 23. Another overnight burglary took place on April 5 in Montclair, where someone stole two cars from an occupied house.

Paramus and Clifton investigators came to believe Burgos-Colon was responsible for the burglaries, Brock said. They tracked Burgos-Colon over the next several weeks through Passaic and Paterson.

Paramus and Clifton Police, assisted by Montclair detectives, arrested Burgos-Colon on April 11, after following him to Bergen Street in Paterson. They arrested him as he got into one of the cars he stole from Montclair, Brock said.

Police recovered two other stolen cars during the investigation, Brock said. Police also found proceeds from burglaries in Paramus, Clifton, Montclair and Nutley in a Bergen Street apartment, Brock said.

Detectives are still investigating other suspects in similar crimes throughout the area, Brock said.

Burgos-Colon is being held without bail in Passaic County.
