NMPD Officers Honored for Exceptional Work

Officers were nominated by supervisors and peers

Members of the NMPD were honored at the June 27 meeting of the Mayor and Council. The officers were honored for exceptional bravery and dedication to their jobs that went above and beyond the call of duty. 

The family and friends of the officers packed the William Klinger Courtroom at Borough Hall as officers lined the back and side aisles of the room, waiting to receive their honors. 

  • Officers Nelson Perez and Kevin Van Saders received Departmental Citations for their actions on November 15, 2010. They performed CPR on a borough resident on Roosevelt Avenue, saving the victim's life.
  • Officers Nicholas DiGenio, Richard Giacobone, Jr. and Brian Clancy were issued Departmental Citations for their life saving actions on August 8, 2010 with regard to an attempted suicide.
  • Sgt. Robert Jones and Officers Daniel LaMorges, Justin Pisano and Frank Haggerty were issued Departmental Citations for their life saving actions on September 26, 2009 with regard to an attempted suicide.
  • Sgt. Kevin Kiene and Officers Kevin Morris, Brian Clancy and Kevin Van Saders were awarded Departmental Citations for their apprehension of three robbery suspects from Teaneck on October 26, 2010. Morris was also awarded a citation from the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association for his outstanding police work that led to the arrest.  
  • Officers Brian Clancy, Kevin Morris and Nicholas DiGenio were awarded Departmental Citations for their apprehension of two suspects believed responsible for an armed robbery in Saddle Brook where the suspects showed a handgun on November 23, 2010. Clancy was also awarded a citation from the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association for his outstanding police work that led to the arrest.
  • Sgt. Frank Ramaci, Det. Brian Long, Lt. Bruce Raffo, Sgt. Robert Jones and Officers Nelson Perez, Brian Clancy, Darrell Marshall, Giovanni Russino, Brian Finale and Daniel LaMorges were issued Departmental Citations for their actions that resulted in the arrest that ended an unprecedented burglary spree that terrified the entire community in the fall of 2009.  They will also be awarded citations from the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association. Det. Curt Wilhelm, River Edge Police Department was also issued a Departmental Citation as well.
  • Sgt. Frank Ramaci was issued a citation from the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association for his investigative effort that led to the arrest of a suspect accused of molesting a seven-year-old girl in Rockland County. He was issued a Departmental Citation as well.
  • Officers Scott Petrie and Richard Giacobone, Jr. received Departmental Citations for their apprehension of a burglary suspect on December 27, 2010 for the Oradell Police Department.
  • Officers Kevin VanSaders, Mark O’Brien and Justin Pisano received Law Enforcement Distinguished Service Awards from MADD for their 2009 DWI enforcement efforts.
  • Officers William A. Duby, Jr., Nicholas DiGenio, Kevin VanSaders and Brian Finale and Frank Haggerty received Law Enforcement Distinguished Service Awards from MADD for their 2010 DWI enforcement efforts.
  • Sgt. John O’Malley and Sgt. Stephen Littlefield were also recognized for their completion of the West Point Command and Leadership program, a rigorous 14-week course that is only offered twice a year for upper level police management.
