The Knights of Columbus recently awarded Certificates of Merit to NMPD Sgt. Frank Ramaci and Officers Brian Clancy, Kevin VanSaders and Derek Mattessich for their community service.
All four officers participated in the 2011 Law Enforcement Outdoor Challenge in April which raised money for a fellow officer's young son who was diagnosed with kidney disease.
Gavin Scimeca, son of River Vale Police Officer Anthony Scimeca, is less than a year old and has been diagnosed with Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease and will require a kidney transplant.

The NMPD officers raised funds for the Scimeca family by running a 5K race, a 27 mile bike ride, one-mile row and a two mile hike.
The awards were given out by the Knights of Columbus on Friday, June 24.
