NMFD Responds to Three-Alarm Fire in River Edge

The NMFD, as part of the Tri-Boro Mutual Aid, responded to a fire on Kinderkamack Road on Wednesday night

A three alarm blaze occurred Wednesday night in River Edge at the strip mall that houses Extreme Parties and FMA Martial Arts.

A portion of Kinderkamack was shut for several hours as fire departments from River Edge, Oradell, New Milford, Rochelle Park, Hackensack and other towns responded to the scene.

River Edge Fire Chief Bill Sanders said a passerby called 911 around 8 p.m. to report smoke coming from the strip mall.

"Upon arriving on the scene a second alarm was called," said Sanders. "They found heavy fire in the rear of Extreme Parties."

All of the stores were closed at the time of the fire and employees who were still working in the building safely exited, according to Sanders.

Chief Sanders said the fire was knocked down around 9:11 p.m.

"We vented the roof and then went into each store to cut open the ceiling," said Sanders. "From Extreme Parties down to the martial arts store they share a common roof and a common ceiling."

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the fire inspector was on the scene as of 9:30 p.m.
