Lieutenants Complete Leadership Training

New Milford lieutenants complete Fairleigh Dickinson's Executive Leadership for Public Safety Course.

According to Police Chief Frank Papapietro, being promoted to the rank of lieutenant requires a higher level of leadership training, not only in matters of public safety, but in planning and development. Planning that will help prepare these men for the risks and consequences that they may potentially encounter in every situation, and development of the performance and morale of those officers for whom they are now responsible. 

This training not only benefits their professional development, but also the well-being of the community. 

New Milford's have completed Fairleigh Dickinson University's ten week "Executive Leadership for Public Safety Personnel" course.

Sponsored by the Bergen County Prosecutors Office, in conjunction with the Hackensack Police Department, this 80-hour course covered complex personnel issues, liability issues and responsibilities and expectations of executive level police supervisors. 

The total cost of the course was paid for with confiscated drug funds from both the Prosecutor’s Office and .

Completing the course were the following lieutenants: John Kiene, Robert Jones, Kevin Kiene, Frank Ramaci, Thomas Johnson and Stephen Littlefield. Each lieutenant was awarded three college credits. Credit for these men taking the course was also awarded to the Borough of New Milford by the borough’s Joint Insurance Fund. 

Lieutenants John O’Malley and Stephen Littlefield completed the State Chiefs Association Command and Leadership Program in 2010.

The will be attending a similar training program in the fall sponsored by the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association. This training program is designed specifically for assisting with the transition from patrol officer to front line supervisor.
