A New Milford man suffered serious head injuries after he was thrown from the motorcycle he was driving Tuesday night in Fair Lawn, police said.

Saran Holmes, 40, crashed a relative's motorcycle on Grunauer Place near Ward Street while out for a test drive around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Police found Holmes in the street with the 2007 Yamaha dumped nearby and he was rushed to the hospital with head injuries, according to a NorthJersey.com report.

Sgt. Lonnie Mergler said he wasn't sure of the extent of Holmes' injuries but that they must have been serious because the Bergen County traffic accident investigator was on scene.

Holmes, who was not wearing a helmet and did not have a motorcycle endorsement for his license, was issued summonses for not wearing a helmet, being an unlicensed driver, failure to maintain control of the motorcycle and reckless driving, Mergler said. He said it hasn't been determined if alcohol played a role in the accident.
