Minor Street Flooding Overnight, River Rising Friday Morning

Only Old New Bridge Road was closed Thursday night due to flooding; High tide expected before 2 p.m. Friday

Despite heavy rains and winds Thursday night into Friday morning, all roads in the borough remained with the exception of Old New Bridge Road and calls to the NMPD were few, according to Police Chief Frank Papapietro.

"High tide was 12:42 am and we experienced no problems," said Papapietro. "Calls for service were few."

The borough suspended overnight parking rules in the borough through Sunday. "I was disappointed that more residents didn’t take advantage of the overnight parking suspension to move their vehicles to higher ground," said Papapietro.

Papapietro said the next high tide is at 1:37 p.m. Friday.  "I’m expecting to see the results of the runoff today into Saturday," said Papapietro.

The Hackensack River at New Milford was measured at two feet for most of the day Thursday but by 8 a.m. Friday morning, it had risen to 5.5 feet, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
