Man Charged With Sexual Assault of New Milford Teen

New Milford Police and Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit conduct joint investigation

A Palisades Park man was arrested Tuesday on sexual assault charges for allegedly engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct with an underaged New Milford girl, police said.

Leo Lopiccolo, 40, an employee at Home Depot, was charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child after a joint investigation by New Milford Police and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit, Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said.

The 17-year old, a female acquaintance of Lopiccolo, reported the alleged sexual abuse to a New Milford High School staff member and said that it had been going on since she was 14-years old, Molinelli said.

According to Molinelli, school officials notified the New Milford Police Department, who conducted a joint investigation with the Prosecutor's Special Victim's Unit.

Bail was set by Judge Peter Melchionne at $250,000 with no ten percent option. Melchionne also ordered that Lopiccolo have no contact with the victim and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.

Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, June 19.
