Fire Leaves Long-Time New Milford Resident Without Home

A long time New Milford resident lost her home on Friday evening due to a fire.

While the Knights suffered their worst loss of the season, 49-14, against Pompton Lakes on Friday, one New Milford resident suffered a true loss.

Debbie Yager, sports coordinator and long time member of the Recreation Department, went through the trauma of having her home catch fire.

The house is currently boarded up and has been deemed as unsafe. The Yager family is currently staying with family elsewhere in New Jersey.

“Debbie lost everything,” said Recreation Director, John Bigger. “Debbie hasn’t had kids involved in the recreation department for 10-years, but she still gives her time up for us. I’ve known Debbie for years as the first person who would step up and help if this happened to someone else.”

Donations for the Yager family can be mailed to PO Box 140. Checks should be made out to Friends of Debbie. Donations can also be dropped off at the Borough Administrator’s office at Borough Hall in an envelope marked New Milford Recreation between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays.
