FedEx Truck Takes Power Line Down on Oradell Avenue

Downed wire causes detours on side streets in Oradell and New Milford

A FedEx tractor trailer truck became tangled in a power line that was connected to a house and a utility pole on Oradell Avenue shortly after noon on Friday. Both the Oradell Police and Fire Departments responded, as well as New Milford police and Bergen County police officers.

The truck was traveling west on Oradell Avenue and became tangled in the wire, bringing it down across the roadway. Traffic was heavy on side streets as cars were detoured off the busy main road.

According to Sgt. Kevin Smith of the Oradell Police Department, the line that came down was a power line but there were no power outages in the area. The home that the wire was attached to was the only residence affected, said Smith.

Police said PSE&G disconnected the downed line and ran a new line to the house.
Smith said the truck had passed through the area earlier in the week with no problem, but that wind may have caused the line to hang lower than normal.
