Parts of Kinderkamack Road Closed after Break in Electrical Line

Crack in transmission line that runs from New Milford PSE&G substation to Maywood substation brings in New Milford and County HazMat teams.

A crack that formed overnight in a PSE&G underground electrical transmission line has forced officials to close Kinderkamack Road between Reservoir Avenue and Main Street while repairs are being made, officials said Tuesday.

The crack, which formed on an underground electrical transmission line running along Kinderkamack Road from the New Milford PSE&G substation on Henley Avenue to the Maywood PSE&G substation, released a non-toxic oil used to lubricate wires in the lines and keep them from over-heating, according to officials.

New Milford Fire Chief Craig Maiocchi told Patch that the New Milford Fire Department Hazardous Material Team was called in to assist with the containment and clean-up.

"The oil and the water created a very slippery situation," Maiocchi said. "We assisted River Edge to puddle and contain the fluids, as well as help PSE&G lay sand to dry and clean it up."

Borough officials do not know when the road will be re-opened to traffic.
