Borough Woman Sleeps While Apartment is Burglarized

Three suspects were charged, including a New Milford High School employee

A borough woman was sleeping in her apartment on Faller Drive last Friday when the home was burglarized, according to the New Milford Police Department.

Her son was taking out the garbage around 1 a.m. when he noticed two men and a teenage boy outside of the apartment, according to police. The boy told police that when he returned to the apartment all three males were gone and he noticed several items missing from the home.

The Bergen County K-9 Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Det. Brian Long of the NMPD were requested and responded to the scene by the initial arriving officers.

The son was able to identify both male adults and the male teen who was with them, according to police reports.  Matthew Schlosser, 18, was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary in the third degree and according to police he admitted that he served as a lookout for the crime.

The woman's son identified the other suspect as "Jens" since he did not know the man's full name. "Jens" was later identified by School Resource Officer Bill Wilde as Jens Jensen-Reinke,18, who works at New Milford High School as a dish washer. Police said he was interviewed by Det. Brian Long and Wilde at the high School and admitted to being involved.  Police said Reinke was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary in the third degree and receiving stolen property which is a disorderly persons offense.

The male juvenile, who the son identified as having been at the scene, was interviewed at his home in the presence of his parents, police said. He admitted to entering the apartment and stealing the items, according to police reports. The male juvenile was charged on a juvenile complaint with burglary in the third degree and theft in the fourth degree.

The stolen items included an X-Box 360, X-Box Rock Band Guitar, a Guitar Hero 5 video game CD and a WiFi adapter, according to police reports. The officers were able to recover some of the stolen items, according to police reports.  The juvenile suspect said the X-Box was sold for $40 on the street the night it was stolen, police said.

Police said both Reinke and Schlosser admitted to being lookouts while the male juvenile entered the apartment. Schlosser and Reinke both live at 235 Milford Avenue in the borough.

All three were released on their own recognizance pending their first court appearances.  The NMPD said the investigation is ongoing.
