Attempted Car Burglary Results in Suspect's Second Arrest

Sheldon Cox is arrested and charged with third degree burglary and theft three weeks after NMPD already arrested and charged him with burglary and theft in same apartment complex parking lot.

Detective Lt. Frank Ramaci announced the arrest of Sheldon Cox, 26, of New Milford for third degree burglary and theft. Cox is already facing charges of conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy to commit theft and employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime stemming from .

Ramaci said that on Sunday, June 10 at approximately 3:00 a.m., a resident called the to report the sound of a loud crashing noise followed by the sounding of a car alarm in the parking lot of the Dorchester apartment complex on Columbia Street.  

Responding to the scene, Officer Kevin Morris found a vehicle with a window that had been smashed by a rock. A witness provided police with a description of two suspects seen running from the scene.

Ramaci reported that Officer Derek Mattessich and Sgt. Brian Clancy arrived to assist in searching the area for the suspects. Mattessich located Cox who fit the description of one of the suspects. Cox was arrested three weeks ago and charged with alleged theft and burglary of a car in the Dorchester apartment complex parking lot.

Cox was arrested and brought to police headquarters where, upon questioning, he was charged with third degree burglary and theft.

Cox was transported to the Bergen County Jail where he is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail. 

Ramaci said that the second suspect remains at large.
