Attempted Burglary at Welsh Farms

Witness observes SUV leaving area of scene at high rate of speed.

New Milford Chief of Police Frank Papapietro reported an attempted burglary at on Henley Street at approximately 10:30 p.m. Monday evening. 

Papapietro said that responding officers Derek Mattessich, Frank Haggerty and Sgt. William Duby observed that the entrance door had been badly damaged and an attempt had been made to pry open the interior doors in order to gain access into the store, activating the store's alarm system. 

According to Papapietro, a witness observed a green or blue SUV leave the area at a high rate of speed. A second witness described an older model green or blue pickup truck with New York license plates parked alongside the store occupied by a male and a female.

Detective Lt. Frank Ramaci and Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation Unit also responded to the scene.  

"At this time there appears to have been no entry made or items taken from the store," Papapietro said.
