Letter to the Editor

Candidates for the Board of Education will appear on the same ballot as elected officials this Nov. 6.

Editor:

This is a unique election year in New Jersey. For the first time, Board of Education candidates appear on the same ballot as the rest of our elected representatives. Especially with this being a presidential election year, many of us may forget to cast our votes for our local Board of Education candidates. I am writing to remind all registered voters to exercise your right to vote on this Election Day and, if you live in New Milford, to vote for Darren Drake and Joe Steele for the New Milford Board of Education.

I served my community for 19 years on the board and I was fortunate enough to serve with both Darren and Joe for a few of those years. This is a time when experience really does matter. Overall, the NMBOE is an inexperienced board. There are only two trustees who have more experience than Darren and Joe. Balancing “new blood” with the old can bring some great new ideas. But when you have too little experience, valuable time is wasted in trying to get all of the newer members up to speed.

Darren and Joe have chosen to run for the Board of Education again because they care passionately about the education provided to New Milford’s students.  Unlike the Council, Board of Education Trustees do not receive stipends or health benefits. They receive nothing other than the satisfaction of serving their communities. Thank you, Darren and Joe, for a job well done and for running again to serve New Milford. These two fine gentlemen deserve your support and deserve to be reelected to the New Milford Board of Education.

Respectfully,
Lori Barton
