NM Ambulance Corps Honored for Potential Life Saving Efforts

Check out this amazing story. The New Milford Volunteer Ambulance Corps received a special honor Monday evening for their work in saving a severely injured bicyclist.

The New Milford Volunteer Ambulance Corps received a Proclamation from the Mayor and Council for saving the life of a critically injured woman in August.

On Aug. 18 the Bicycle Touring Club of New Jersey held their 36th annual Ramapo Rally at Campgaw Mountain. During the event, a female rider lost control of her bike and crashed into a guardrail.

“This young woman was riding down an embankment, lost control of her bike, went headfirst into a guardrail, sliced a large section of her thigh, broke her back in three places, and then rolled down the embankment,” explained NMVAC Captain Denise Brunner.

According to Brunner, the neurological surgeon who worked on the injured bicyclist said that the woman would have been a quadriplegic if not for proper care immediately following the incident.

“We were very fortunate to have a quick acting crew who took care of her that day,” said Burnner. “[The injured woman] went back to work last week without any injuries.”
