A Pair of Knights Selected as All-Bergen County Team Members

Andrew McElroy and Joe Victory were both named among the standout players in Bergen County.

Members of the Bergen County Coaches Association voted last week and chose the All-County football teams. Two players from the New Milford High School Knights football team were selected, both were on the defensive side of the ball.

Joe Victory (Senior, Linebacker) – All Bergen County – Third Team Defense

Victory was named among the top linebackers in a county, a list that included prospects from football powerhouses like Don Bosco Prep and Paramus Catholic. Victory racked up 47 solo tackles and two sacks in 10 games. More importantly, Victory was the senior leader of a defense that held Bogota, Lyndhurst to single digits in the scoring column.

Victory’s best defensive efforts may have come on the offensive side of the ball. Victory carried the ball 174 times and racked up 968 yards and 11 touchdowns as the teams leading rusher. His 5.6 yards per carry average kept opposing offenses on the sideline and helped the Knights earn a winning record in 2013.

Andrew McElroy (Junior, Secondary) – All Bergen County – First Team Defense

McElroy, another two-way standout on the 2013 Knights squad, ended his season with 71 solo tackles, two sacks and two interceptions. McElroy beat out Paramus Catholic’s Keyon Washington, a highly touted prospect, for his spot on the All-County first team defense. In fact, McElroy was one of only five juniors named to the first team defense.

Like Victory, McElroy was also a nightmare for opposing defenses to deal with on the offensive side of the ball. The 38 catches, 557 yards and four receiving touchdowns McElroy hauled in give Knights fans a lot to look forward to in his senior season.
