Sept. 28: YWCA Bergen County Health Insurance 2013 Forum will Focus on Affordable Care Act and its Impact on the Community

The Affordable Care Act and the launch of open enrollment on October 1 will establish a “new normal” for healthcare options for Bergen County residents and business owners. On Saturday, September 28, 2013, the YWCA Bergen County will address the impact of healthcare reform on individuals, families and small businesses at “Health Insurance 2013: What You Need to Know About the Affordable Care Act.” This free forum and expo will be held at the Logan Family Life Center at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 274 Central Avenue in Hackensack, N.J. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We are committed to educating and empowering our community about their health and healthcare choices,” said Helen Archontou, CEO of YWCA Bergen County. “Our goal is to make sure that everyone in attendance gains a better understanding of how the ACA will impact them and is prepared for open enrollment on October 1.”

The event will include a vendor expo from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., where special guest Sherri Shepherd, co-host of “The View,” will sign copies of her new book, “Plan D: How to Lose Weight and Beat Diabetes (Even If You Don’t Have It).” Visitors can also attend a VIP breakfast and meet-and-greet with Shepherd from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Tickets for the breakfast are $35 per person and must be purchased separately on the registration website.

The expo will be followed by lunch and a panel discussion entitled, “Healthcare Reform: What it Means to You,” presented by local and regional experts and moderated by Sheila Thorne, Region II Health Equity Council Member, Co-Chair, Cultural & Linguistic Competency Committee. Interactive workshops will provide an in-depth look at “Small Business Health Insurance Options Plan (SHOP)”, “Changes in Medicare and Medicaid,” and “Getting Ready for Enrollment.”

Registration is free for the vendor expo, lunch, panel discussion and workshops. To register or for more information, visit http://www.stayclassy.org/health2013 or contact Wendy Worden at 201-881-1720.
