Check the list to see which items the free disposal service will accept.

Mahwah’s Campgaw Mountain Reservation will host a Bergen County Utilities Authority Hazardous Waste Collection this Saturday. The BCUA will be accepting waste products at the reservation from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine.

The drop-off is free to all county residents carrying an ID. Residents can bring any “hazardous wastes” that they need to safely throw away.

Acceptable materials include aerosol cans, anti-freeze, vehicle and rechargeable batteries, blacktop sealers, bug spray, disinfectants, drain cleaners, fertilizer, fire extinguishers, florescent light bulbs, gasoline, glue, herbicides, insecticides, kerosene, lighter fluid, mercury switches, used oil filters, paints, varnishes, pesticides, photographic chemicals, one- and 20-pound propane gas cylinders, solvents, thinners, thermostats, thermometers, and used motor oil.

There are some materials the collection will not accept, including alkaline batteries, which can be thrown away normally, unlabeled waste containers, containers with unknown substances, medical waste, radioactive materials, explosives, containers larger than five gallons, compressed cylinders, pressure-treated lumber, and tires.

This collection is not an e-waste collection, so computers, TVs, and other electronics will not be accepted.
