Flash Flooding Forces Road Closures in Town

This morning's fast and heavy downpour caused flash flooding that resulted in the temporary closing of portions of Boulevard.

The National Weather Service has issued flash flood warnings throughout our area through 1 p.m. Monday.

According to New Milford Chief of Police Frank Papapietro, areas of town that normally do not experience flooding, were hit hard. The roads around Brookchester, parts of Boulevard, Charles Street, William Street, Faller Drive and Columbia experienced street flooding. Residents of low-lying Columbia Street were moving their cars to higher ground to avoid water damage to their cars.

No house flooding has been reported at this time.

"The rain came down so hard and so fast that it overwhelmed the storm sewers," Papapietro said.

As the rain subsided, so did the flooding. All roads have been reopened.
