Police Chief Frank Papapietro said that there are 3,000 residents currently without power and advises that residents practice caution when outside. He also asked that all non-essential traffic be avoided.
"There are many downed wires and trees throughout the borough. We ask that everyone be careful if they're outside," he said.
The latest Public Service report estimates that most power should be restored by Wednesday. About 271,000 of its customers were experiencing outages statewide.
"Utility crews have been working through the night to assess the damage from fallen trees and branches and begin the restoration process" the statement said. "Because of the number of damaged trees and downed power lines, the utility is advising that full restoration for some customers may not occur until Wednesday."
