Senator Robert Gordon Attends Chamber Walk

Senator Robert Gordon and Assembly members Timothy Eustace and Connie Wagner join New Milford's Chamber of Commerce as they visit local business owners.

The threatening rain clouds did not keep Senator Robert Gordon, Assembly members Timothy Eustace and Connie Wagner, and Council members Hedy Grant and Austin Ashley from attending New Milford's Chamber of Commerce walk along River Road to meet and greet business owners.

Among some of the businesses that the group visited were Jersey Boys, Chez Rosemary, Harvey's Appliance, Toros Turkish & Mediterranean Cuisine, New Milford Delicatessen, Verizon and Roman's.

At each stop the representatives discussed the state of local businesses and how these business owners are weathering tough economic times.

Patrick Santino, owner of Harvey's Appliance, told Gordon that the benefit of shopping local is that he knows his customers and will go out of his way to provide those who are struggling with what they need, at cost if necessary.

"My customers are very important to me," Santino said. "If they're going through difficult times and I can help, I do."

Rosemary Saxton, owner of Chez Rosemary, said that the economy and loss of jobs have affected her business.

"People are not spending money on luxuries when gas and food are necessities," she said.
